RAMSEY DISPATCH RIDER DIES FROM INJURIES
News was received on the Island at the week end that Driver Arthur Corkish, R.A.O.C., a Dispatch Rider, had died following injuries received, in a military hospital somewhere in England.
Arthur Corkish was a well known and popular young fellow in Ramsey and Peel. He was the son of Mrs Corkish of Waterloo Road, Ramsey, and was married to Miss Betty Sheargold of Peel and leaves besides his widow, a little boy of two. He was 28 years of age.
A grocer by trade, he served his time in the Ramsey branch of the Maypole, and was afterwards engaged in other grocery establishments. He was a keen motor-cyclist and musician and at one time was a member of a Ramsey orchestra.

Military Funeral

The funeral of the late Arthur Corkish took place, with lull military honours, at Maughold on St. Stephen's Day. The remains had been conveyed to the Island with an escort of six members of the deceased's unit, including a Corporal who was a friend of the late young man. In addition to the escort party the funeral was attended by a guard of honour from another unit, who fired three volley over the grave. The service was conducted by an Army Chaplain, Rev. Pillifont, and the 23rd Psalm was sung.
The mourners were the widow; Mrs Corkish (mother); Mr Jack Corkish (brother); Mrs Sheargold (mother-in-law); Mr and Mrs Douglas Hilton, Mrs Isabel Cowley and Mrs J. Kneale.
The wreaths included four from the place where the late Dispatch Rider was stationed, these being from the officers and personnel of the Command Depot, R.O.A.C., Officers, Warrant Officers, N.C.O.'s and men of the 61st Section, R.A.O.C . Dispatch Riders of the same section, and the Flanders Concert Party. Other wreaths were from the widow and Mrs Sheargold, Mrs Corkish, senr., and Mr and Mrs Jack Corkish and family. Mrs Skillicorn. Mrs Cowle and I Mrs Kneale.
