Our loving mother, Norma Parker McKean, 91, died quietly in her sleep on Tuesday, December 8, 2015, at her home in Holladay, Utah. At her passing she was surrounded by her loving family. They are saddened by her sudden loss, and will sorely miss her fierce love and her unquenchable free spirit.
She was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on March 2, 1924, the youngest child of Malinda Helen Watson and James Slack Parker. She was raised in Salt Lake, attending South High School and Stevens Henager College. She married Alvin Burnham McKean in October, 1945 and was blessed with five wonderful children. Norma displayed talent as an artist and was fond of painting. She was an introspective soul who thrived in the outdoors. She worked with Al to build the beloved family cabin near Woodland on the Provo river and tended an impressive garden in Holladay until the end of her life.
Norma was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Shelly, her oldest daughter, Susan and her beloved husband, Al. She is survived by her children, daughter Claire McKean-Pett (Rip); and sons Kelly McKean (Barbara) and Duncan McKean (Betty); and grandchildren Wyatt McKean, Shane Edwards, Isaac Tolpinrud and Ruby Johnson.
A memorial gathering will be held in Norma's garden at the family home (2940 East Casto Lane) in Holladay, Utah on Saturday, April 23, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Family and friends alike are welcome.
