Cumberland, MD--Twila Virginia (Cosner) Whitney, 97, of Cumberland, died Thursday, May 5, 2016 at The Golden Living Center.
Born May 18, 1918 in Mt. Storm, WV, she was the daughter of the late Emmett Cosner and Leola (Cassidy) Cosner.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Maynard Jack Whitney; a son, Kenneth R. Fretwell; and, two brothers, Raymond and Sydney Cosner. Mrs. Whitney was a graduate of Tri-State Beauty Academy.
She operated Twila’s Salon for many years in the Cumberland area.
She belonged to Christ Lutheran Church.
Survivors include her two children, James R. Fretwell and Janice Ann Whitney; several grandchildren, great, grandchildren, and great, great, grandchildren. Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, P.A., 202 Greene Street, Cumberland, on Monday, May 9, 2016 from 6-8 PM.
The funeral service will be conducted in the Chapel at Restlawn Memorial Gardens on Tuesday, May 10, 2016 at 11 AM. Rev. Charles Erzkus will conduct the service, assisted by Vicar Bruce Baxter.
Entombment will be in Restlawn Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 4217 Park Place Court, Glen Allen, VA 23060.
