The Maud Monitor, Maud, OK., Thurs., Dec. 9, 1926, p. 1:

"Maudie J. Hembree, widow of C. A. Hembree, deceased, died at the family home southeast of Maud Saturday morning at about 2:00 o'clock, December 4th, 1926.

Mrs. Hembree's health had gradually failed since the death of her husband some two years ago from an injury received in a fall while building a barn on his farm. She has been confined to her bed for about four months suffering from what the physicians pronounced internal cancer and had spent some time in the hospitals in Oklahoma City and Shawnee, without relief.

Mr. and Mrs. Hembree had a large family of children, several of whom are still minors. Three of the children are married. These are Mrs. Nellie McGee, Mrs. Mesia Ham, and Mrs. Homer Cherry. The other children are Oscar, Walker, Orville, Annie Rena, Alva, Una and Dora Hembree.

Mrs. Hembree's father is D. N. Brothers who lives at Apperson, Oklahoma. She also had five sisters, Mrs. Mattie I Lemons, Birdie Brothers, Rosa Lemmons, of Apperson, Mrs. Grace Doughtery, of Gracemont, Oklahoma, and Mrs. Ida Newberry of Amber, Oklahoma. Ben Brothers of American Falls, Iowa is a brother.

The Hembree family are pioneers in this county. Mrs. Hembree was born in what is now Love County, Oklahoma, Aug. 19th, 1881, and was a little more than 45 years of age at the time of her death. She came to Pottawatomie County with her parents before she was grown and married in this county and had lived here ever since.

Burial was at Cummings Cemetery Saturday evening at 8:00 o'clock."
