She came from a distinguished family of servants to the Episcopal Church in Virginia. Besides her father, two of her brothers became bishops. One, Henry St. George Tucker, was presiding bishop from 1938 to 1946. Two more Tucker brothers became Episcopal Ministers and two other brothers served as missionaries. Seven of her nephews and grand-nephews are ministers.
