Mr. Dwight David Atkins, 59, of Ararat, VA passed away Saturday, April 30, 2016 at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston Salem. Mr. Atkins was born in Surry County on November 13, 1956 to the late Clifton and Mary Ruth Hutson Atkins. He was a retired sewing machine mechanic and was of the Baptist faith. He is survived by his loving wife, Pauline Willard Atkins; sisters and brothers-in-law, Helen and John Gwyn, Nancy Stephenson, Audrey and Dennis Freeman; brothers and sister-in-law, Johnny and Janet Atkins, Twain Atkins, Joe Atkins; many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents Mr. Atkins was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Herbert Stephenson. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 4, 2016 at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Chad Harrison and Mr. Joe Atkins officiating. Burial will follow in Doe Run Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 12:30 PM until time of the service at Moody Funeral Home in Mt. Airy. Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Christian School, 6201 Claudville Hwy., Claudville, VA 24076.
