I have a hypothesis that this Zack Rickets may have been the Zadoc Rickets who was born circa 1703. This is just a hypophysis-a guess. But the name "Zadoc" is actually pronounceded "Zaddick" and NOT "ZaDOCK", and I wonder if people just didn't start calling him "Zack" over "Zaddick." And then he eventually--later in life--he adopted Zackariah. So let's consider, for a moment, that "Zaddick" Ricketts was called "Zack Ricketts, and then eventually he freely went by "Zack," and thus "Zacharia." This particular Zadoc "Zaddick" Ricketts family would fit perfectly into the Hill Valley, Huntingdon County Pennsylvania rickets, because another extended branch of these Ricketts were actually in Huntington County, PA. In the 1760s, along side the main Hill Valley Ricketts Family. So it actually makes rational sense that this "Zaddick" Ricketts, who was born circa 1703, may have eventually become and thus been: Zack Ricketts. (Zac, Zak, Zadick). And if you say the name Zadoc pronounced "ZADDICK" really fast, it actually almost sounds like Zack! Thus I think Ricketts researchers should consider this above hypothesis. -------- Old transcribed family records from Breckenridge county Kentucky, SUGGEST that a "Zachariah Ricketts" was the father of Hezekial Ricketts (born 1754) of Hill Valley. And also suggests that a William rickets was a brother to Zachariah, but according to a mostly "competent" book entitled genealogy of Johannes Baer, 1749-1910, authored by Robert Bruce Baer-Who is a great grandson of Hezekial Ricketts born 1754, and Daniel Mattias Baer & copyrighted in 1910 this book (on page 228) cites a William Ricketts as being the father of Hezekial Ricketts born 1754 and also cites a Zachariah Ricketts as the grandfather of Hezekial Ricketts born 1754 of Hillvalley, Shirleysburg PA. This mostly credible genealogy book goes on to cite that William and Zachariah Ricketts, son and father, were living together in Rockbridge County, Virginia in 1784 cited from a land record.-------- so this William or Zachariah Ricketts, father and grandfather of Hezekial Ricketts born 1754, may have been the first generation of Ricketts that obtained the land located in Hillvalley, Shirleysburg, Huntington County, Pennsylvania. But online sources cite Edward Ricketts as the father of Hezekiah which makes more logical sense because Edward was is Huntingdon co early. The above genealogy book mentioned an earlier book by the author Jones that says that the rickets Family was the first white people into Warriors Mark section of Pennsylvania. it seems that may have been somehow tied in with Fort Shirley which was built in 1754 1756.---- in carefully reviewing the pages on the rickets family of Hillvalley-in the book 'genealogy of Johannes Baer 1749-1910' and copyrighted 1910, it is obvious that the book is mostly credible, especially with most of the rickets portion of genealogy, simply because one of the Authors-Robert Bruce Bare was a son of Elizabeth Ricketts Baer!. And his Mom-Elizabeth Ricketts Baer being a granddaughter of Hezekial Ricketts born 1754. And it seems that an Emanuel B. Harencame who was extended Ricketts family and lived on the old Ricketts Homestead and died there in 1908, and is buried in The rickets family cemetery is possibly the one who delivered some of the information about the ancient Ricketts genealogy going back into Rockbridge County Virginia with William and Zachariah rickets. ----- The Baer family were intermarried with the Ricketts . and the two Baers-authors of the book would have had easy access to the Ricketts family legend. ----- I have a hypothesis which is that once authors & researchers Robert Bruce Bare and Daniel Baer started asking questions of the Ricketts extended family they started telling them that the rickets had Dark-blood; or "Indian-Native American" heritage, and that is why Robert Bruce may have stopped doing the research on his mother's side. Because this whole branch is missing. Thus stopped researching on his mother side-the rickets side is possibly because of a report that the rickets are partially descended from (MELUNGEONS) "Indians-Native Americans," he may have stopped researching because in 1900 it was not popular or attractive to be descended from Melungeons/Indians. Of course now in the 21st-century it is very popular and actually sought after to discover Melungeon-Indian-Native American-ancestors., But in 1900 attitudes were reversed. ---- it is a long family legend coming down from my great-great-grandfather Laban Ricketts' through his descendants in Cloverport Breckinridge County Kentucky that laban rickets, the grandson of Hezekial rickets born 1754 of Hillvalley, was of Indian heritage-at least partially. ---- nevertheless The early rickets family records are difficult to organize-some sources at the Mormon library suggest William, or Edward was the father. The Ricketts family was a very large extended Family and the many rickets family records from Maryland and Pennsylvania are quite confusing. ---- there are quite a few old records on the rickets and the correspondence between cousins and Robert Bruce bare that are deposited in the Cumberland County Pennsylvania archives, and some of these records have been copied and are deposited at the Filson club historical society in downtown Louisville Kentucky. ----- Fort Shirley was a couple miles from Hillvalley. And, there were pro-British Indians living inside and outside the fort in the 1750s-right alongside the white soldiers and white settlers, and it was reported in 1754 that at least 200 Native Americans-men women and children where living at Fort Shirley which is now Shirleysburg Pennsylvania.----- While living in Cloverport Kentucky Hezekial's grandson-Laban Ricketts born 1824, was proud to be of Indian ancestry, and this is old family legend. ----- there was a Zachariah rickets living in Derry Township in Mifflin County Pennsylvania pre the revolutionary war.-His wife was Sarah Hamilton, and this may be the brother of Hezekial Ricketts, and Zachariah rickets is where Hezekial seems to have gotten the land at Hillvalley-Shirleysburg PA. ----- in the above photos is a Copy of a letter of Mr Swope to Mr Bare dated 1909. The Last paragraph cites a Zachariah Ricketts having a marked gravesite in the (presumably) Hillvalley Ricketts Family graveyard. Because Mr Harencame actually lived on the Ricketts farm & near the Ricketts graveyard and his earlier observations would seem to be very plausible. So it looks like--at least from the above letter--that a Zachariah Ricketts (or Edward Ricketts 1706-1786--possibly the actual father) was buried in the old Ricketts family cemetery on the Ricketts farm in Hillvalley, Shirleysburg Huntingdon County. And, it looks like a Zachariah Ricketts (or Edawrd Ricketts) still had an (assumed) grave marker in pre-1909 in the Hillvalley Ricketts family cemetery, which, could simply have been an uninscribed Creekstone--with a rickets Family legend of having been Hezekiah rickets' father's uninscribed Grave marker, so more likely Edward Ricketts--if he is the actual father of Hezekiah. ------ Huntington Pennsylvania and Rockbridge Co, Virginia remember that these two particular counties are easily connected by the great Appalachian Valley Road. -------- there is a Thomas rickets of Amherst County which is next-door to Rockbridge County, who died in 1803 and is buried in his Thomas Ricketts family graveyard which is located on Possum Island Road where wolf branch--off of Stovall Creek--nears Possum Island road. This old Thomas Ricketts family cemetery was probably established in the 1780s or 90s. This Thomas rickets was born circa 1735 and would be somehow extended family to the Hill Valley, Pennsylvania Ricketts. This same Thomas rickets acquired a land-grant in 1773 for 350 acres on Possum Island Road surrounding Stovall creek at Wolf branch, in Amherst County Virginia, Which is next door to Rockbridge County. This Ricketts Cemetery in Amherst County Virginia is four- square poles, which is approximately 66'x66' feet in dimension, And is listed in a 1799 deed of sale where Thomas Ricketts is selling most of his acreage, most likely to liquidate, and settle his estate, as he probably knows that he is not to live much longer, having died in 1803. ------ Hypothesis: the Zachariah that gave land to Hezekiah in 1784 might have been his brother born circa 1750, and thus william Ricketts was perhaps Hezekiah's nephew.
