A rosary will be said Sunday at 7:00 p.m. at Starbuck Funeral Home in Merkel. A mass will be 10:00 a.m. Monday at Our Mother of Mercy Catholic Church in Merkel with Reverends Terry Brenon and Michael Rodriguez officiating. Burial will be in the Trent Cemetery.
Adela was born in Hawley on March 31, 1920. She lived in Trent most of her life until recently moving to Abilene. She was a member of Our Mother of Mercy Catholic Church in Merkel. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She enjoyed visiting with all her family and was known to her grandkids as simply "Wella".
Survivors include four daughters, Felipa "Phyllis" Martinez and Julia Leal both of Abilene, Patsy Byrd and husband Denver of Rochester, Lupe Adames and husband Aurelio of Sweetwater; four sons, Manuel Acuna and wife Mary and David Acuna and wife Susan all of Abilene, Jesse Acuna of St. Louis, MO, Si Acuna and wife Maria of Sweetwater; two sisters, Maria Moreno of Merkel, Juanita Lopez of California; two brothers, Lupe Garcia of California, Mercedes Garcia of Washington; a sister-in-law, Ruby Acuna of Trent; two brothers-in-law, Louis Acuna of Trent, Jesse Acuna and wife Mary of Brownwood; 21 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Pascual Acuna; and two sisters, Mercedes Perez and Leonarda Garcia.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Richard Martinez, Paul Martinez, David R. Acuna, Larry Leal, Felix Leal and Alex Leal.
