Roberta Jean (Love) Summers, 93, of Carbon, passed away April 26, 2016, at Union Hospital, in Terre Haute. She was born Oct. 26, 1922, in Brazil, the daughter of Everett Newell and Gertrude Ferol (Tilley) Love.
Roberta graduated from Staunton High School, with the class of 1940. She worked as a secretary at Commercial Solvents in Terre Haute, after high school until 1948. She also served as postmaster for the United States Postal Service, in Carbon, from 1973 until retiring in 1989. She married John Hubert Summers on Sept. 13, 1947, in Brazil. They lived their entire married lives in Carbon. He preceded her in death on Oct. 31, 2013.
She was a member of the Carbon United Methodist Church, Delta Theta Tau Beta Alumnae Chapter, Brazil, and the National League of Postmasters.
Roberta was an avid flower gardener who enjoyed spending time outdoors and decorating for the Christmas season and taking care of her home.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Summers; two brothers, Paul Wayne Love and Donald Dale Love; and a sister-in-law, Jean Garnet Love.
Visitation will be at French Funeral Home, 421 East National Ave., Brazil, on Monday, May 2, 2016, from 1 until 2 p.m. Graveside services will be at Summit Lawn Cemetery, Monday at 2:30 p.m. with Pastor Jeff Bridgewater officiating.
