Geraldine “GG” Hopkins Bennett, 95, of Greeneville, passed away peacefully at her daughter’s home in Greeneville. GG, as preferred to be called, was born January 31, 1921, in Erwin, TN. She was a retired employee of Santa Clara County Hospital in San Jose, California. She worked in food service most of her life and loved every minute of it. Everyone who had the privilege of meeting her, adored her.

GG is survived by four daughters, three sons-in-law and one daughter-in-law: Betty and Frank Cremins of Greeneville, TN; Rachel and Gavino Vigil of San Jose, CA; Ruby Snelson, of Greeneville, TN; Beth Mondragon and Joseph Artino of Greeneville, TN; Paula Zanette of Pollock Pines, CA; 10 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren; one sister Clarice Harris of San Jose, CA; one half-sister: Mary Miller of Winchester, KY; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

She is preceded in death by her parents: Lizzie and Walter Lynwood Hopkins of Erwin, TN; her son Clyde Bennett of Pollock Pine, CA; two sisters: Ruby Hopkins of Erwin, TN and Peggy Mashburn of Jonesborough, TN; two brothers: Earl Hopkins of Limestone, TN and Walter Hopkins of Erwin, TN; two granddaughters: Elizabeth Vigil of San Jose, CA, Jeannine Key of Greeneville, TN; one son-in-law, Richard Snelson of Paradise, CA.

GG was an avid reader, loved to work puzzles of all kinds and had a green thumb. She was a nature lover. She loved flowers, plants and animals. She would grow the tops of carrots and avocado seeds so she could show them to the children when they came to visit. Teaching children to appreciate nature and to care for animals was a priority.

GG’s children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren were always foremost on her mind. When a child entered the room she would light up as they would run to her for a big bear hug. She would always have a little trinket she had saved so she could give them something.

A familiar song and quote that best describes GG: “Live, Laugh, Love.”

A special “Thank you” to: Amedysis for taking such good care of our mother for many months and to: United Health for providing in-home help and respite care.
