US Soldier killed at the Battle of the Little Big Horn. Pvt Brandon was described as 5'6', grey eyes, dark hair with a ruddy complexion. His civilian occupation was listed as carpenter. He enlisted on July 21, 1855 at St Louis, MO. Prior to the Civil War, Brandon served at various posts in Texas. During the Civil War he served with Company K, 9th Connecticut Infantry Regiment. On November 16, 1873, Brandon was listed as a deserter. On January 31, 1874, he was restored to duty, without a trial, under the condition he serve out the remainder of his enlistment with the 7th Cavalry Regiment. Brandon was assigned duties as a Ferrier for Company F. At the Battle of the Little Bighorn Company F was attached to LTC George Armstrong Custer's battalion. Brandon was killed sometime during the fighting. After the battle many soldiers from Company F, and their sorrel colored horses, were found on or near Last Stand Hill. Some of their horses appeared to have been shot by soldiers and used as last ditch barricades. Brandon's body was not identified. It is likely that his unidentified remains were buried on the battlefield where they had been found. In 1881 all known battlefield burials were moved to a mass grave on Last Stand Hill. During one of Brandon's many enlistments in 1866, he used the alias of Robert Nelson.
