Herman Willard Dather, the son of the late Leonard Dather and the former Mary Storing, was born October 1, 1895 in Plessis, Iowa. During his early life he received his education in rural schools of Melvin, Iowa. Later he worked for farmers in the area of his birth.

On June 4, 1935 Herman was united in marriage to I. Louise Halstead, in Ainsworth, Nebraska. Shortly after their marriage they lived and farmed in Nebraska and Primghar, Iowa area until 1946, when they came to live in Storden Township in Minnesota. Since that time they have lived in the community and been members of the Storden Baptist Church. To this union five children were born.

Retiring from active farming, Herman and Louise have remained on their home farm. Becoming ill last summer, Herman received treatment in Iowa and because of the gravity of his illness, was later taken to Americana Nursing Home in Cedar Rapids. It was there that he died on March 13 at the age of 86 years, five months and 13 days.

During his life Herman enjoyed his family and in later years, he loved to hunt and fish. Together Herman and Louise enjoyed traveling to other states. Of special interest to Herman was his ability to judge seed corn.

Survivors include his wife, Louise; five children, Leland of Mound, Minn., Norman of LeMars, Iowa, Alice Weets of Russell, Minn., Mary (Mrs. David Johnson) of Cedar Rapids, and Edith (Mrs. David Cimo) of Arvada, Colorado; 17 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Also surviving are one brother and one sister, Nellie (Mrs. William Zahn) of Harris, Iowa and Ivan of Ruthton, Minn. His parents, one brother, two sisters and one granddaughter preceded him in death.
