Tex was born on July 31, 1924 in Clint, Texas. He moved to Lubbock in his youth and remained there the rest of his life. Tex was a carpenter who built many houses in Lubbock. He was a long-time member of First Assembly of God, serving on the deacon board and teaching. He was active in the Men's Ministry and with Royal Rangers. After retirement, Tex learned Spanish, and participated in missions work, making over 35 trips to Mexico to build churches there.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Doris Fortenberry. Tex is also survived by 3 children, Joel Fortenberry of Houston, Darlene Harvey of Lubbock, and Gary Fortenberry of Lubbock; six grandchildren, Krystal Russell, Amber Barham, Jason Fortenberry, Kelsei Fortenberry, Kara Harvey, and Kaiti Fortenberry; and 2 great grandchildren, Matthew Russell and Joshua Barham.
He will be laid to rest in the City of Lubbock Cemetery.
