Mrs. Hanson retired in 1995 as an elementary school teacher. She was a member of People-to-People Organization, Alexander Macomb Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, the PEO and Immanuel United Methodist Church Circle. She came from Kansas for a teaching position in Eastpointe -- where she taught for more than 30 years, including many years at Woodland Elementary School.

She received her master's degree in education from University of Kansas. Her interests included studying her family history, teaching, tutoring, reading and church activities.

She is survived by her children, Ruth (Barry) Oleksyk, James H. Hanson and John (Irene) Hanson; granddaughters, Heather (Joseph) Chomiak, Michelle (David) Fetz, Emily Oleksyk and Amy (Gregory) Comperchio; and three great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Floyd Harver Hanson; father, John Duff French; and mother, Mable French.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Immanuel United Methodist Church, 23715 Gratiot Ave., Eastpointe. Burial will be in Cadillac Memorial Gardens East, Clinton Township.

Visitation is 5-9 p.m. today and 2-9 p.m. Friday at Clyne & Sobocinski Funeral Home, 22121 Kelly Road, Eastpointe. Additional visitation is 9:30-10 a.m. Saturday at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to the church.
