Died at age of 70 years, 6 months, 9 days.

John Henry Grindstaff, son of Peter W. and Mary Ann Mayfield Grindstaff, was born near Patton, November 4, 1870 and passed away at his home near Bernie, Mo., Monday, May 12, 1941, aged 70 years, 6 months and 8 days. Mr. Grindstaff had been in declining health for several years but continued his farm work. He was suffering from low blood pressure but his condition was not that serious.

On August 27, 1893 he was married to Miss Effie Nugent of his home community, who survives. To this union nine children were born.

Those surviving are; Hershel, Lloyd, Willie, Clinton and Mrs. Maude Kildew, all living on farms near Bernie; Mrs. Pearl Morgan of Phoenix, Ariz.; Mrs. Mary Britt, Liverpool, Ill.; and Mrs. Mildred Stout of St. Louis. One son, Lester, died about 18 months ago. He is survived by twenty-two grandchildren and one great grandchild; two brothers and three sisters, George Grindstaff of Marble Hill; Hez Grindstaff and Mrs. Hannah Ellis of Sedgwickville; Mrs. Mary Smith of St. Louis and Mrs. Ellen Bollinger of Patton.

After their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Grindstaff live near Patton and in Glen Allen, until 1910, when they moved to a farm near Brian, Mo., later going to Oran and then to their present home near Bernie.

Mr. Grindstaff was converted in early manhood and lived a devout Christian life. He was a member of the Flatwoods Methodist Church. He was laid to rest at Bethany Cemetery on May 16, with his nephew, a son of his sister, Rev. John W. Ellis of Sedgwickville, in charge. Pallbearers were his nephews, John, Jr. and Lee Ellis; H. T. Nugent; Henry and George Bollinger, Reagan Grindstaff. Flower girls were nieces, Annie, Gladys and Maxine Nugent and Mary Cole.

John Grindstaff was a highly respected citizen doing what he thought was right at all times. He was honest and always the same to everyone. He taught his children dependability, temperance, and honesty. He will be sadly missed.
