Civil War Union Soldier. He was a 29 year old stonemason from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania when was enrolled in the 3rd Pennsylvania Reserves on May 27, 1861, and was mustered in as a Private in Company K on July 29, 1861. He served with the Reserves until he re-enlisted and was transferred to Company D, 54th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry.
