James was the son of Henry Leonard and Lucinda Dickerson. He married Carrie Belle Pewsey on Mar 06 1901 in Buena Vista County, Iowa. They were the parents of Imo Ellen, Lila Lucinda, J Randall, and Dolene Marvyl.

Storm Lake Pilot Tribune - Aug 20, 1931 - The funeral of James Leonard, who passed away at his home near Minot, ND, was attended by a large crowd of relatives and friends at the home of the deceased's brother-in-law, Elmer Pewsey, Sr last Monday afternoon.

The Leonard family lived here several years ago, but removed some 10 years ago to North Dakota where they have since resided. Mr Leonard had been critically ill for the past several months and medical aid at Rochester and other important clinics was sought in vain.

The funeral was conducted by Rev Pruel of Rembrandt and the remains laid to rest in the Storm Lake cemetery.

- Rembrandt News - Rev Preul conducted funeral services Monday evening for James Leonard of Clyde, ND at the E.G. Pewsey home east of Truesdale.

The remains were brought by auto from the Dakota home and interment was made in the Storm Lake cemetery.

Mrs Leonard and daughters, Imo and Darlene and son, Randall and Mrs Leonards brother, C.H. Pewsey, accompanied the remains here. R.B. and R.M. Pewsey of Rembrandt are brothers of Mrs Leonard.
