At 5:45 last Monday morning Mr. John M. Witherspoon died at the residence of his son, Dr. J. A. Witherspoon, on High street, in this city, age 66 years. The interment was at the old family grave yard on Knob Creek, the same afternoon, the services at the grave being conducted by Revs. R. B. Mahoney and S. C. Evans. Mr. Witherspoon had been in failing health for several years. He was well and favorably known in this county, where he lived for a great many years, as a man of quiet habits and unimpeachable character. Several years ago he moved to Glass, West Tennessee, where he resided until about a year ago. He was married twice, his last wife surviving him. His children living here are Dr. Jno. A. and C. W. Witherspoon, Esq. -- Columbia Herald, 13 Nov. 1891.
