Viella was the second of five children of Samuel Sheriff and Martha Jane Long Denison Sheriff, born in Illinois July 1854. She married John E. Harker on 24 Dec 1873 in Henry County, Illinois and together they had three sons, two died in infancy in Geneseo, Henry county: Johnny V. b. 1878 d. 1883; Charles born & died 1886, and Samual born in Nebraska and died in California.
Viella and her husband, John, left Geneseo and moved to California in the Fall of 1911 with their son, Samual. John died July 17, 1915 and Viella passed away Dec. 1933.
In her youth she taught in the public schools of Henry county. After moving to California she was a regular attendant of the 'Geneseoans' in California annual picnic.
