NATHAN (Nate) SHELDON HARGER -
Born on April 25, 1859 in Monroe County, Iowa
Died on June 4, 1917 at St. Joseph Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska

He died of smoke inhalation from fighting fires along a railroad right-a-way. Nathan married
Rosa May Sanders. Rosa was born on June 15, 1872 near Tarkio, Missouri and died in May of 1945 in Murdock, Nebraska of a cerebral hemorrhage. Nathan is buried at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Nehawka, Nebraska. Rosa is buried at Wabash Cemetery near Murdock, Nebraska. At the approximate age of 16, Nathan left home that day and never returned. Nathan worked in the limestone quarries and on the railroad in Nebraska. Nathan was a member of the Woodmen of the World Lodge. Rosa was blinded shortly after their daughter Bessie was born but could still keep house, sew, cook and care for her family. Rosa played the piano, organ and harmonica. Rosa was quite religious and loved to sing. After Nathan's death Rosa took the insurance money and bought a small house in Weeping Water, Nebraska.

OBITUARY OF NATHAN SHELDON HARGER

The Nehawka News - June 7, 1917

The remains of Nate Harder, who died in a hospital in Omaha Monday, were brought to Nehawka Tuesday morning at ten o'clock.

The Harder family live at the Beebner quarry four miles west of town, where the deceased had been employed in the past. The wife and five children survive. The wife and mother is blind, and owing to the long illness of the father, the family has been compelled to seek aid from the county.
Mr. Harder was born April 25, 1859, died June 4, 1917, at St. Joseph hospital, Omaha, aged 58 years one month and 9 days.

He was a member of the Woodmen of the World lodge, who sent a representative to Omaha to accompany the remains to this place. Members of the lodge of Nehawka, met the train on which the corpse arrived, and took charge of the funeral, which was held at the M.E. church at 11 o'clock Tuesday forenoon, Rev. J. Guy Munsell performed the obsequies. Interment was made in the Mt. Pleasent Cemetery.

A precious one from us has gone,
A voice we loved is stilled,
A place is vacant in our home,
Which never can be filled.
