Lela Mae "Dode" lived her life in Amarillo. She was the daughter of Henry Wright and Merinda Adeline (Ridings)Wright. She graduated from Amarillo High School and then got a stenographers certificate. Later she got a certificate in drafting. During WWII she worked at the Rubber Plant in Borger, TX, which was later bought by Phillips Petroleum Company.

She married James C. Metcalf and had two daughters, Margaret June and Mary Sue. She was known for her good cooking and for growing Dalhia's, for which she won ribbons at the County Fair. She also enjoyed painting pictures and China.

She loved family. She had 6 grandchildren. She died as a result of a heart attack at the age of 75.
