WILSON -- Services for Alvia Pearlene "Pearl" Dowdy, 91, will be at 10 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 6, 2006, at the Assembly of God Church with the Rev. Gerald Stevens and the Rev. Everett Smith officiating. Interment will be at Bomar Point Cemetery.

Born on Aug. 19, 1915, south of Wilson to John Wesley and Emma Virginia Hefner Kincheloe, she died on Oct. 2, 2006, in Ardmore.

She and Thomas Golder "T.G." Dowdy were married on Oct. 1, 1932. She was preceded in death by her husband on Oct. 1, 1992; her parents; and three sisters, Mildred Sissney, Louise Acree and Lois Alexander.

Raised in Wilson, she was an excellent seamstress and worked for Joe K. Leather for 12 years. She liked to do needlework and read. A grandma to many people in Wilson, she loved the Lord and her church, church members and had been a Christian since childhood. Beyond the Lord, the love of children and grandchildren were next. She enjoyed crocheting, quilting and cooking while raising her family. She was a longtime, devout member of the Assembly of God Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Pearlene Barnes, and husband, Jim, Wilson; two sons, Donald Dowdy, and wife, Kitty, John's Island, S.C., and Wayne Dowdy, and wife, Peggy, Wilson; a sister, Betty Manley, and husband, Ray, Wilson; 12 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Bearers will be Keith Barnes, Alan Barnes, Wayne Barnett, Chris Cicio, Hoss Snow and Royce Sanders. Honorary bearers are Irvin Hardy, Reecie Holiman, Tommy Pickens, Darwin Allen and Benny "Sparky" Patrick.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 tonight at Alexander Funeral Home.
