Mary was born in Athens to William Henry and Cornelia Stovall Allen. She was a graduate of Athens High School and Ohio University with bachelor of science in commerce.
Upon graduation from college, she worked for Kodak in the accounting department in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, on what became later known as the Manhattan Project.
During this time she played women's basketball, winning the status of East Tennessee All-Star; certified medical assistant and secretary/office manager for her brother William H. Allen Jr., M.D., for 44 years; charter member of the Pandorian Club of Nelsonville; received the Nelsonville and Southeast Ohio Regional Council Person of the Year Award; Nelsonville VFW/Rolland Pierce Citizenship Award; co-compiled and published "Nelsonville in Pictures."

Mary was preceded in death by her parents; husband O.W. Davis; sisters Mildred and Betty; and brother William H. Allen Jr., M.D.
