Richard Edward Widman, 85, passed away surrounded by his family on Friday, March 25, 2016 at his Gibsonburg residence. He was born July 24, 1930 in Fremont to Joseph and Bertha (Myers) Widman. On April 16, 1955, Richard married Janet Ruth Gabel at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Fremont.

Richard was a dedicated dairy farmer of registered Guernseys in Fremont, and he took pride in farming his land.  He was a great showman at many county, state, and national fairs, always taking time to say hi to a friend. Among his many talents, he was an excellent wine-maker. Richard was a great husband, wonderful father, and grandpa. He even remodeled his home in order to take care of his mother and mother-in-law when their health had deteriorated.  After retirement, he spent much of his time traveling to watch his grandchildren play basketball and other sports.

Surviving in addition to his wife, Janet are children, Mike (Rosie) Widman of Fremont, Susan (Frank) LaSalvia of AZ, Mark Widman of Toledo, Sherrie Walters of Fremont, and Amy (Kevin) Damschroder of Gibsonburg; grandchildren, Laura (Ryan) Eckel, Mike (Andrea) Widman, Jenny (Morgan) Little, Andrea (Mike) Hayward, Larry (Katie) LaSalvia, Lisa (Ashton) Shewey, Kassy Widman, Amanda Widman, Hayley Widman, Lisa (Jake) Schneider, Erica (TC) Hoffman, Logan Damschroder, and Nate Damschroder; 24 great-grandchildren; and sisters, Pat Spieldenner and Ann (Joe) Gottron.

Richard is preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Norman, Eugene, George, Marie Amor, and Bernadette Overmyer; granddaughter, Christina Walters; and son-in-law, Eric Walters.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 3rd from 1-7 P.M. at the Herman-Veh Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Gibsonburg. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Gibsonburg on Monday, April 4th, beginning at 10:30 A.M. Burial will follow at Washington Chapel Cemetery, Lindsey.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Michael's Catholic Church in Gibsonburg, Hospice of ProMedica Memorial Hospital, St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Fremont, or to a charity of the donor's choice.
