She was born May 8, 1921 in Richfield to Joseph William and Olena Matilda Olsen Dalton Parker.
Her father died when she was nine years old and she, her mother and her sisters experienced many deprivations and hardships common during the Great Depression. Hulda and her two older sisters worked after school and during summers to help support the family. She graduated from Jordan High School and attended Brigham Young University.
Hulda taught high school in Duchesne for two ½ years. She then served a full time mission to the Canadian Mission. For nearly ten years, she worked as secretary to various members of the Council of the Twelve, primarily Elders Ezra Taft Benson and Mark E. Petersen.
A part of her service as the personal secretary for Elder Benson was in Washington, D.C. when he was Secretary of Agriculture in President Dwight D. Eisenhower's Cabinet.
Hulda served as General Secretary-Treasurer of the Relief Society with Pres. Belle Spafford, on the YWMIA (Young Women) General Board, and on the Sunday School General Board.
Hulda married S. Dilworth Young on January 4, 1965 in the Salt Lake Temple. She traveled the world with him on many of his assignments and on her own assignments on the Relief Society General Board.
She served with her husband when he was Director of the Los Angeles Temple Visitor Center after Elder Young became an emeritus member of the First Quorum of the Seventy. Dilworth died July 9, 1981, just ten days after their return from Los Angeles. After his death, she completed her studies begun forty years before and received a Bachelor's degree from BYU.
Hulda has always been faithful and committed to the Gospel of Jesus Christ. She is fearless in standing for truth and right, no matter the consequences. She has a great sense of duty and does not know the meaning of surrender. Yet she is kind and loving.
Her large extended family always knew they could go to her for help and support. In her last few years, her caregivers have expressed how much they loved her and loved caring for her.
Although Hulda has no children of her own, she takes great pleasure in her husband's family. She, therefore, claims nine grandchildren, twenty-seven great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews who are almost like her own children.
Hulda is preceded in death by her husband, parents, step-children, and all of her brothers and sisters. Her grandchildren and many nieces and nephews love her and will miss her strength and courage.
