II Timothy 4:6-8 in the Message states: You take over. I'm about to die, my life an offering on God's alter. This is the only race worth running. I've run hard right to the finish, believed all the way. All that's left now is the shouting--God's applause! Depend on it, He's an honest judge. He'll do right not only by me, but by everyone eager for His coming.

Words of Timothy, but easily could be Ruth L. Howell's words as she won the battle of this world and slipped into Jesus' arms on Friday, May 8, 2015.

Ruth is survived by her adoring husband, the love of her life of 65 years, Duane Howell of Lubbock. She is also survived by daughter, Roberta Cooper of Franklin, TN, and Regina Murray (Kevin) of Lubbock; one sister, Edna Herring of Roswell, NM; grandchildren, Tori Reinhart (Grant) of Jasper, IN, Josh Cooper (Melanie) of Cookeville, TN, Hannah Meeks (Jeremiah) of Portland, OR, and Chelsea Bugarski (Joe) of Corona, CA. The sparkles of her eyes were her 11 great-grandchildren. Her family legacy included many more blood relatives but just as important to her was her family of the heart, Bruce and Brenda Wood of Lubbock.

During her life Ruth was employed by Kodak Corporation, Texas Instruments and the Transportation Safety Administration. She was an active member of Mackenzie Terrace Baptist Church since 1965 where she was a member of the choir and with a servant heart, willing to serve as needed in any capacity. Ruth served for 40 years as a faithful Partner-in-Service in Lions Club International with her husband. She also served beside Duane in the LPD Retired and Former Officers Reunion since 2004 where she tirelessly worked on scrapbooks and organization of the annual event. Ruth's daily life was her Godly testimony of how one life could spread love and gratitude with each person she met.

She was always so grateful for the loving and caring staff at all the Covenant facilities. Her family is extremely grateful to Dr. Kirin Yalamanchilli for his dedication in giving us every opportunity to have more time with this precious woman.

Visitation will be tonight, May 11, 2015 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Resthaven Funeral Home. Services will be held at 11 a.m. in Mackenzie Terrace Baptist Church on Tuesday, May 12, 2015 with burial in Resthaven Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers the family request gifts in her memory to Texas Lions Camp, 4100 SanAntonio Hwy, Kerrville, TX 78028. Condolences may be offered at www.resthavenfuneralhome.com.
