Keith Edward Campbell was born Aug. 18, 1925, in Oskosh, Neb., the third child of Vaile and Mayme Nash Campbell. He grew up on the family ranch north of Oskosh and attended a one-room school through the eighth grade. Keith attended high school at Garden County High School, graduating in 1943.

Drafted into the Army in January 1945, Keith served with the 11th Airborne in the South Pacific, and later with the occupation forces in Japan. He was discharged in November 1946, returning to Haigler, Neb., to work and raise cattle on the family ranch with his dad.

He married Helen Mae Turpin Nov. 29, 1947, in Wray, Colo. In November 1948, Keith accepted a position with the Nebraska Brand Committee that he held for 15 years. The family lived in Benkelman, Neb., until 1956, before moving to various places in Colorado, Nebraska and Wyoming. They especially enjoyed their stay in the Gering and Scottsbluff, Neb., area. They lived on the Nebraska State Game Reserve and took care of the buffalo and elk. In August 1964, Keith was transferred to Lewiston as an Idaho deputy state brand inspector. In 1969, he retired from the Brand Commission and went to work for Dwight Barton Oil Co., later becoming Idaho Petroleum. He retired in 1985.

After retirement, Keith enjoyed woodworking and making figures from horseshoes. These figures were given or sold to many area ballplayers.

He and Helen attended all their grandchildren's sports events, from T-ball to high school to college. Helen died in 2005. His grandchildren were very important to him and "Pop" could always be depended on when one of them needed him. All the grandkids remember seeing Pop standing in his driveway, saluting them as they drove away.

Dad met Judy Ball in 2007 and they were closes friends until her passing in November 2015. Keith and Judy were regulars at senior lunches, dances and playing the nickel machines.

Dad passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 24, at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center. Keith is survived by two daughters, Pat and husband Ben Martin of Asotin, and Vona and husband Don Litchfield of Lewiston; three grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson, with two more expected this summer. A niece, nephews and cousins survive him in Nebraska.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen; his parents; three brothers, Warren, Lee and Vernon; sister Eileen Peterson; and his sister-in-law, Gloria Campbell; two grandsons, Kirk

Litchfield and Jeff Aiken; and longtime companion Judy Ball.

Keith was a member of the American Legion Post No. 13 in Lewiston. There will be a graveside service with full military honors at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Mountain View Funeral Home, at Seventh Street and Cedar Avenue, Lewiston.

Memorials may be sent to the American Legion No. 13, 1127 Eighth Ave., Lewiston, ID 83501; or the charity of choice.
