Jane A. Eveland (September 17, 1928 — March 20, 2016)

Jane A. Eveland, 87 of Briar Creek, passed away Sunday, March 20,2016 at Select Specialty Hospital in Danville. She was born September 17, 1928 in Briar Creek, a daughter to the late Ray and Bessie (Whitmire) DeHaven. Jane lived her entire life in the Berwick area. After graduating from Berwick High School, she married Dane D. Eveland June 28, 1947, and they lived their lives together for almost 48 years until his passing in 1996. Jane was known as a meticulous and well organized housewife. She served in the Gray Lady service of the Red Cross, volunteering her time at the VA Hospital in Wilkes-Barre several times a week. Jane also was an active member of the DAR and the 20th Century Delphian Club. Her faith was the foundation of her life. An active member of First United Church of Christ of Berwick, she was a member of the Women’s Guild for over 70 years and sang in the church choir. Her favorite hymns included What Wondrous Love Is This, It Is Well With My Soul, and Amazing Grace, and her favorite Bible verse was Psalms 23. Jane was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She is survived by 3 sisters-in-law: Margy and Elizabeth Eveland and Dolores Whitchey and numerous nieces and nephews. As well as her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Christopher,daughter, Cathy, brothers: Henry, Richard, and Carl, and sisters: Dorothy, Harriet, Marian, and Margaret. Jane’s funeral is 12 PM Saturday, March 26 at the Kelchner-McMichael-Baker Funeral Home, 119-121 E. 3rd St., Berwick. Friends may call at the funeral home from 11 AM until time of the service. Pastor Susan Knorr, Columbia Circuit U. M. Charge, will serve as the officiant. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery. The DAR will hold a memorial service immediately prior to the funeral service. Donations in Jane’s memory should be sent to the First United Church of Christ, 313 W. 2nd St., Berwick, PA. 18603.
