Margaret D. Samsel, 91, of Briar Creek Borough, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2013, at Berwick Retirement Village II. She was also under the care of the Berwick Hospice.
Margaret was born March 31, 1922, in Briar Creek Borough, a daughter to the late Ray and Bessie (Whitmire) DeHaven.
She worked for 34 years as a packer at the Wise Potato Chip Company and belonged for over 60 years to the First Reformed United Church of Christ in Berwick. An avid bowler, she participated in many leagues for years. She also enjoyed doing yard work, flower gardening, and decorating her home for the holidays. Surviving Margaret are her daughter, Dorothy Lee Hunsinger, of Briar Creek Borough; sister, Jane Eveland, of Briar Creek Borough; stepson, Richard Samsel, of Salem Township; stepdaughter, Leanne Johns, of Larksville; step grandchildren: Shaun, Lisa, Amber, and Ashley; several step great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Raymond Samsel; former husband, Marlin W. Hunsinger; brothers: Henry, Richard, and Carl; and sisters: Dorothy, Harriet, and Marian.
Visitation is 10-11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 23, 2013, at the McMichael-Rairigh & Baker Funeral Home, 119-121 E. Third St., Berwick. Her funeral service is 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Pastor Darryl Kensinger will serve as the officiant. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery, Walnut Street, Berwick.
