According to the marriage entry in their family Bible, Alexander Stevenson was married to Elizabeth Gilmore on 2 Mar 1790. They were the parents of nine children: William, Martha, Hugh, James Alexander, Melinda, Calvin, Miles, Milton, and Margaret. Based on later census records, two of their eldest children were born in South Carolina.

Alexander first appears in the 1790 Federal Census of Spartanburg, SC enumerated on 15 Jul 1791. His household is listed as 1 male age 16 and up and 1 female age 16 and up. Living nearby were probable relatives: Wm. Stephenson, Hugh Stephenson, James Gillmoore, Joseph Gillmoore, and another James Gillmoore.

In 1799, Alexander was purchasing land in the part of Christian County, KY that eventually fell into Livingston and later Caldwell Counties on Donaldson's Creek and the forks of the Tradewater River. By 1816, Alexander was in Maury County, TN and selling land in Caldwell County, KY. He died in 1818 in Maury County.
