Born and raised in Upper Makefield, he was a lifelong Newtown resident.
Walter was preceded in death by his loving wife of 59 years, Doris (Shambough) German.
He is survived by his children, Diane Zymkowitz (Steve) of Yardley, Pa., Dan German (Mary Ellen) of Newtown, Pa., and William German (Phyllis) of Orefield, Pa., and six grandsons, four great grandsons and one great granddaughter. He is also survived by two sisters, Elizabeth Dishmon (Kelly) of Penns Park, Pa. and Alice Sheets of Holicong, Pa.
Walter attended the Woodhill School. He proudly served in the U.S. Army and was stationed at the Valley Forge Military Hospital, where he assisted in the care of injured veterans. Upon discharge, he returned to Newtown and built his home on the family farm.
He was a 38-year employee of Rohm and Haas Chemical Company in Bristol, Pa., retiring in 1988.
In retirement, Walter was an avid restorer and collector of antique farm equipment and Grange Fair exhibitor. Walter enjoyed sharing his knowledge of historical agricultural life in Bucks County.
Walter was a kind, patient and devoted father, grandfather and great grandfather who led by example. His gentleness was a gift that will remain his legacy. He will be sadly missed by his family, friends and acquaintances.
Interment will be held privately.
