Obituary from contributor #47627353:

On July 3, 2010, Vern passed the barrier of time as we know it and is forever at home with the savior he faithfully served for nearly 45 years.

A son given by the Lord to Paul and Maxine Frazier, Vern was born in Ottumwa on June 19, 1947. Vern graduated from Ottumwa High School in 1965 and was married to Darlene E. Frazier on Nov. 13 that same year.

Vern began his 52-year grocery career at age 11 at Herman’s Produce Farms in Ottumwa. During high school years he worked full time at Hy-Vee Food Store; after high school he operated his own grocery stores while working at Rank’s, a local retail business. In 1972 he went to work for Giant foods, which in 1976 was purchased by Aldi Inc., where over the next 36 years he held several positions, retiring as CEO July 1, 2009.

Vern’s favorite hobby was his family. He greatly enjoyed time vacationing with family (especially the grandchildren) and friends. Spending time together celebrating special occasions, working on the farm and at the pumpkin patch were most valued. Vern always played an active role in church, such as Sunday School teacher, men’s group leader and board member. He enjoyed mentioning and motivating people to be their best. His dedication and commitment has inspired and will have a lasting impact on his family, friends, coworkers and all who knew him.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Maxine Frazier. Vern is survived by his loving wife, a daughter, a son, grandchildren, two sisters, and nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the River Church in Nashville, Tenn., with burial to follow at the Hermitage Memorial Gardens.
