Del Norte – Longtime Valley resident Valerie Atencio, 63, passed away on March 14, at the University of Colorado Hospital in Denver, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on September 1, 1952 in Del Norte, Colorado to Toby and Ernestine (Naranjo) Baca. Valerie graduated from high school in Del Norte. She married Leroy Atencio on April 19, 1971 in Del Norte, Colorado. Valerie was an amazing and loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend. She was a woman of deep faith and a dedicated member of her church. She was devoted to her grandchildren and family, whom she loved spending time with. She will be dearly missed by all who know her.
Valerie is survived by husband Leroy Atencio of Del Norte, her son, Leroy Atencio of Colorado Springs, her daughter Jennifer (Michael) Aragon of Colorado Springs, her grandchildren, Max and Luke Aragon both of Colorado Springs, and sisters Henrietta (Gilbert) Martinez of Denver, Lucy (Don) Madrid of Colorado Springs, Priscilla Lucero of Colorado Springs and Virgina Valle of Del Norte as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.
Valerie was preceded in death by her parents and brothers Jake Baca, Toby Baca and Leroy Baca.
A Memorial Service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 20, 2016 at the Pioneer United Church, 630 Spruce St. Del Norte, Colorado.
Donations can be made in lieu of flowers to the American Liver Foundation.
