Vivian Huard, 84, Duluth, died March 13, 2016 at Essentia St. Mary's Duluth.

Vivian was born in 1931 in Brookston, Minn., to Alfred and Martha (Glader) Honkala.

She graduated with honors from Duluth Central High School. She earned a degree from St. Luke's School of Nursing in 1953 and pursued a long career as a hospital nurse and later as a school nurse where she coordinated the Duluth Head Start Health program. She went on to teach and ultimately rewrite the curriculum for the Basic Nursing Assistant Program at Duluth Technical School. "Excellence in Nursing" was Vivian's motto and she was proud to serve her students as well as her community as President of the St. Luke's Alumni, St. Lawrence Women's Group and the PTA.

Vivian was a devoted and beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt who will be dearly missed by the many lives she touched.

She is survived by five children, Michele (Ken) Danelski, Superior, Yvonne (Michael) Rockwood, Denver, Colo., Fr. Jeffrey Huard, St. Paul, Jon (Linda) Huard, Appleton, Wis., and Annette (Patrick) Spehar, Chisago City, Minn.; 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; sisters Dolly (Larry) Wood, Two Harbors, Marilyn (Lee) Fawcett and Cheryl Schinigoi, Duluth; brother Wil (Doris) Honkala, Texas; foster sisters Marjorie Modell (Minneapolis) and Charlotte Sitler, Austin, Texas.

Vivian was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 56 years, Herbert Huard; grandson Nicholas Spehar; son-in-law, Dale Anderson; foster parents George and Martha Bell, and brothers Delbert, Maynard, Clarence, Marvin, and sister Dory.

VISITATION: 9 a.m. until the 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial Thursday in St. Lawrence Catholic Church, 2410 Morris Thomas Road, Duluth. Burial at Park Hill Cemetery. Memorials preferred. Final arrangements entrusted to Williams-Lobermeier-Boettcher Funeral Home.
