Per his Mother's notes: David was born 2 Oct 1841

His parents moved to Iowa around 1853.

In about 1863 David and, possibly his brother Charles, went to Idaho Territory in the gold rush there. While there he met and married 'Mary Elizabeth Rivers'. Her parents left soon after for Oregon.

According to his daughter Rose, "He worked in the mines (gold, that is), made a lot of money but he wasn't wise enough to keep it and was broke when he and mother married." Living expenses were very expensive in the mining camps and the average miner did not get rich
looking and mining for gold.

David and Mary went to Oregon in the fall after they were married. There they farmed.

Rose:
"Yes and this is another sad date we will remember poor old father passed away last night at 11:55 PM on 4 July. I was with him until the last and closed his eyes and his mouth and Hubert and I straightened him then we went over to call Bill and they went to call the undertaker and we brought mother home with us at 2 o'clock. It is hard to part with our father, but he suffered so long he wanted to go and I am so tired and sad for mother and I have had a long seige of it and mother was sick in bed a week. Father was in bed three months and it seemed like three years almost to me and mother.

Father's funeral was at Estacada in the Chapmans funeral Palor on Wednesday, July 8 at 2 o'clock. Lena Cahill Bar and Mrs. Louise Linn sang two beautiful hymns and Mrs. Cahill played the organ. Elder John Rippey preach the sermon and Frank and Fred Marshall, Elmer Marshall, Ralph Myers, Stanford Cox, all Grandsons, were Palbearers."

After David died, Mary lived with her daughter, Rose.

Daughter not linked: Arleta, died in infancy.
