Alberta Rowe Ofstad Hoop, 85, passed away at her home surrounded by her loving family on March 9, 2016. She was born at home in New Bern on November 25, 1930 to Frank Ammon Rowe and Annie Elizabeth Rowe. She was a woman filled with Christ, a loving wife, mother, proud grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She grew up during the depression and at an early age began helping her mother with the duties of caring for all the elderly and widows in her neighborhood. Caring for others made a lasting impression on Bertie that would shape the rest of her life. Being in the healthcare field for many years, she had such a great heart for everyone. She was a beautiful person inside and out, and always put others first. She was a great cook and enjoyed working in her flowers. Often she would comment later in life how she missed her mother, brothers, and sisters, and all the wonderful family gatherings that were so dear to her heart. She was next to the youngest of seven children and the last surviving sibling in her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Annie Rowe, husbands Richard Edwin Ofstad (1955), and Clarence Enterline Hoop (1991), and son Gregory Richard Ofstad (1974), brothers Mack Rowe, Frank Rowe (Mary), John Rowe (Rosey), William Fulcher; sisters, Mildred Andrews (George), and Lillie Mae Grimsley (John).

Bertie leaves to cherish her memory daughters Grace Ofstad Stephenson, Sandra Ofstad Bennett (Ken), and son Gerald Edward Zeven; grandchildren, Kimberly Grace Stephenson, Bryan Stephenson (Kim), Jeffrey Robert Stilley, Jr. (Tammy), Shauna Stilley Lowdermilk (Joe), and Ashley Bennett; great-grandchildren Brandon Adams, Lauren Ackerman, Samantha Lowdermilk, Jacob Stilley, Chloe Stephenson and Sophia Stephenson; and long time close friend Greg Witherington. She was so loved and will be missed greatly by all those who knew her.

In addition to Dr. Robert Fisher of Craven County Home Health Hospice, our family wishes to thank all of her physicians, especially life-long physician, Dr. John Ayers of CarolinaEast Internal Medicine, and the nurses who gave her the absolute best care possible.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial to the Craven County Home Health Hospice, Post Office Drawer 12610, New Bern, NC 28561.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. on Sunday at Pollock-Best Funeral Home and other times at her residence. Funeral service will be held at Tabernacle Baptist Church 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 14 with burial following at Greenleaf Memorial Park.
