Rites Are Today For Mrs. Merritt

Mrs. Leila D. Merritt, life-long resident of Benton, died Tuesday afternoon in a Shreveport hospital after a long illness. She was 74.

A member of the Red River Baptist Church, just outside of Benton, Mrs. Merritt is survived by her husband, John T. Merritt, of Benton; two sons, W.G. Merritt and J.C. Merritt, both of Benton; a daughter, Mrs. J.L. Bundy, of Benton; a brother, J.I. Dalrymple, of Shreveport; three sisters, Mrs. Bell D. Jenkins and Mrs. Alton D. Smith, both of Shreveport and Mrs. Una Reed of Albuquerque, N.M., nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services are scheduled for 3:30 p.m. Thursday in the Red River Baptist Church, the Rev. R.O. Bazer, retired pastor at Pineville, officiating and assisted by the Rev. Earl Jolly, of the Red River Baptist Church.

The body will lie in state at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, of Shreveport, till 2 p.m. Thursday, then will be forwarded to the Red River Baptist Church for services.

Pallbearers will be R.L. Bumgardner, L.E. Jones, Melten Coker, R.C. Atkins, A.L. Bundy, Glen Colvin, J.G. Jones and Boyd Montgomery.
