"Matthias Zimmer died at his home in St. Clair town, Wednesday, Feb. 17th, 1892, aged 83 years. He came to this county in 1853 living here ever since. Truly he was one of the few remaining old settlers who came into this section when it was a vast tract of timber and he could speak from experience of the many hardships and privations of those early days. Mr. Zimmer was esteemed by all who knew him and his funeral which was held from St. Mary's church on Friday, the 19th was largely attended by sympathizing friends and neighbors. He was the father of 9 children and something remarkable is the fact that he had a grandchild for every year he was old." Source: St. Clair Historical Museum Collection
