James Verlon Kennedy, 89, passed away on Thursday, March 3, 2016 at his home in Batesville, MS. His cause of death was prostate cancer with metastasis to the bone. He was born on February 13, 1927 in Burnsville, MS to Carrie Cleo Davis Kennedy and Alfred Luther Kennedy.

He was a greeter at Walmart (almost 27 years) in Oxford and was known for his hospitality and friendly smile. He also enjoyed gardening and truly had a green thumb.

Mr. Kennedy is survived by three daughters, Patricia Ann Watson (Bobby) of Batesville, MS, P. Joyce Weed (William) of Saltillo, MS, and Karen Acevedo (Amos) of Morro Bay, CA; two sons, Donald Glen Kennedy (Hiromi) of Tennessee and Jimmy Dale Kennedy of Batesville, MS; two sisters, Veedy Franklin of Batesville, MS and Annie Pearl Tidwell of Crowder, MS; 12 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife of sixty-six years 10 months (married August 2,1947), Elizabeth Christine Azlin Kennedy; one infant daughter, Dorothy Christine Kennedy; one infant son, James Edward Kennedy; two sisters, Beedy Anderson and Hazel Kennedy; and brothers, Alfred M. Kennedy, John Edward Kennedy and Arthur Carroll Kennedy and his parents, Carrie Cleo Davis Kennedy and Alfred Luther Kennedy.
