Donivan was born in Minden, Nebraska at the Seeley Hospital on Sept. 1, 1926, the second child of David Ray and Esther Inga Marie (Jensen) Favinger. He was raised on the farm northeast of Minden and attended District 61 country school in Liberty Township through the eighth grade. The family worshiped in Liberty Baptist Church. Don was baptized in a horse tank on the James Burchell farm. He grew up with four sisters, Ione, Milrae, Mardelle and Marsha. He graduated from Minden High School in 1943 at the age of 16. It was at Minden High that he met the love of his life, Bernadine Maxine Christensen. Upon graduation from high school, he, along with about 70 other boys from Kearney and Buffalo counties was drafted and traveled to Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. He was too young to serve in the military and received a classification of 1-A. He received the Carl Ramon scholarship, which provided a way for him to attend the state university in Lincoln. He did ROTC training while attending the university. He studied engineering for one semester and then returned home to help his dad with the farming. The war ended before he was eligible to serve at age 18.

On Sept. 29, 1946 he and Bernadine were married in the First Christian Church in Minden. They were blessed with 68 years of marriage. Don worked for the city of Minden as a lineman, and then got the chance to farm for Oscar Warp. He worked at Warp publishing Company during the winter months for 27 years. He also helped his dad on the family farm. Four children were born to Don and Barnadine: Patty Ann in 1947, Linda Sue in 1952, Kendall Ray in 1959, and Sandra Kay in 1966. The family grew and Don and Bernadine were blessed with 11 grandchildren, two stepgrandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and two stepgreat-grandchildren.

Don and Bernadine started a house rental business in 1964 that has continued until the current time. They did a lot of RV traveling and visited 42 of the 50 states. They spent the last 29 winters at Port Isbel, Texas, where Don liked to surf fish and bay fish. They worshiped in the Chapel by the Sea at South Padre Island. In 2006 Don took a painting class at their RV campground. The class offered six lessons and that was enough to get Don hooked on painting scenery pictures. He has painted over 200 pictures.

Don was proud of serving within the Minden First Christian Church. He was a deacon, elder, church treasurer, property chairman and usher during his 70 year membership.

Don volunteered in the :Light of the World" Christmas pagent for 25 years. He portrayed the head shepherd and also the aged Simeon.

Don suffered through a barrage of illnesses the past 6 months: several falls, blood infection, surgery on his left hand and right knee and finally stage 4 cancer of the esophagus.

Don is survived by his four children and their spouses, Patty Damgaard and Marshall of Minden, Linda Waldron and Rick of Juniata, Kendall Favinger and Kim of Kearney, Sandra Peshek and Alan of Kenesaw. Also, grand children and great-grandchildren: 4 sisters and 1 brother-in-law.

Don was precen in death by his wife bernadine, his parents and 3 brother-in-laws.
