Obituary from the Edwardsville Intelligencer, Edwardsville, Madison County, Illinois, Wednesday, April 14, 1954, page 2:
   Henry Ashauer, Sr., 71 of Edwardsville route 2, died Wednesday at 7:20 a.m. at his home in Carpenter.  He had been in failing health for a year.
   He was born July 15, 1882, in St. Jacob, the son of William and Netti Ashauer and for the past 35 years had been a farmer in this vicnity.
   Besides his wife, Anna (Scheibe) Ashauer, he is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Ann Urban of Carpenter; five sons, Henry, Jr., of Granite City, Wilbert of Edwardsville and Carl, Irvin and Andrew of Carpenter; three brothers, Louis, Ben and William, Jr., of Edwardsville; two sisters, Miss Mary Ashauer of Edwardsville and Mrs. George Milhausen of St. Louis, Mo.  Also surviving are 12 grandchildren.
   Friends may call at the Weber funeral home after 7 p.m. Thursday until 11 a.m. Saturday when the body will be taken to Zion Lutheran church, of which the deceased was a member, to lie in state until 2 p.m. when funeral services will be held, with the Rev. R.G. Kruz officiating.
   Burial will be in Carpenter cemetery.

Pallbearers were Otto Brase, Edmund Pape, Fred Schulte, Paul Schoenleber, Edward Brakhane and Gustav Weber.
