Adolph “Dockie” Hilliard, 85, of Honeyville Rd., Stanley, died on Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2013, at MontVue Nursing Home.

He was born on April 30, 1928, in Stanley and was a son of the late Joseph Hilliard and Mabel Tressie Turner Hilliard.
Mr. Hilliard worked as a supervisor for the Virginia Department of Transportation, retiring in 1983 with 33 years of service. He was a member of the Leake’s Chapel Church of the Brethren.

On Aug. 7, 1944, he married Alita Blanche Good Hilliard, who died on July 17, 2009.

He is survived by three daughters, Donna Jane Burner and husband John W. Burner of Shenandoah, Brenda Joyce Lowery and husband Alton Lowery Jr. of Stanley, and Juanita F. Taylor and husband Roger Taylor of Stanley; three sons, Leonard Clinton Hilliard and wife Yvonne “Bonnie” Hilliard of Stanley, Joseph Adolph Hilliard and wife Bonnie Hilliard of Stanley, and Roger Lee Hilliard and wife Pat Hilliard of Stanley; a sister, Joyce Ann Comer of Stanley; three brothers, Lilliard and Williard Hilliard, both of Stanley, and William Paul Hilliard of Muscle Shoals, Ala.; 15 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Frances Ann Pettit; a sister, Marie Frances Stoneberger; and two brothers, Layton and Buddy Carlton Hilliard.

A funeral service was conducted on Monday, Nov. 18, at the Leake’s Chapel Church of the Brethren. Burial was in the Leake’s Chapel Cemetery.
