He was born in Cleveland County on September 25, 1942 to the late Odus Palmer "OP" Bell and Myrtle Hull Bell. He was retired after thirty years of service with the US Postal Service, Shelby. Steve was also a member of Friendship United Methodist Church where he sang in the choir, member of the Fellowship Sunday School Class and the Methodist Men. He also was a former member of the American Legion Post 82 and avid hunter, fisherman, golfer and bowler. Steve will be fondly remembered for being a die hard fan of the Carolina Tarheels. He also served in the US Army as an MP where he was awarded several marksmanship awards.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his brother, Ken Bell.
He is survived by his loving wife of fifty-one years, Linnie Durbin Bell; son, Cliff Bell and wife Anita of Shelby; daughter, Crystal Blum and husband Dave of Raleigh; grandson and apple of his eye, Silas Blum of Raleigh; brother, Gary Bell and wife Karen of Shelby; two sisters, Pricilla Wray and husband Gene of Shelby and Joyce McGuire and husband Jerry of Mooresville; special nephew, Eric Bell and wife Anna of Gig Harbor, WA; numerous other loving nieces and nephews and special pet, Buddy.
The family will receive friends on Thursday from 6:30 to 8:00 PM at Stamey-Tysinger Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Fallston.
The funeral will be held on Friday at 11:00 AM at Friendship United Methodist Church with the Rev. Neal Brower officiating.
