William Silas Hastings was the 5th son and the 8th child of William Wallace Hastings and Margaret Ann Philpott Hastings. He married Elizabeth "Lizzie" Hunt Hastings on Dec 27, 1896. They had 1 son and 1 daughter.

W. S. Hastings Dies at Canyon Sunday

William S. Hastings, age 52 years, farmer, died at his home in Canyon at 4 o’clock Sunday afternoon following a brief illness of pneumonia.

He is survived by his widow; a daughter, Miss Oressa; eight brothers and four sisters as follows: Luther, Frank and Tom Hastings of Bovina; Henry Hastings, Hereford; William Hastings, Ashtola; Jim Hastings, Long Beach, Calif; Robert Hastings, Dimmitt; and Joe Hastings of Canyon; Mrs. W. R. Frasier, Estelline, Texas; Mrs. J. H. Derrick, Clarendon; Mrs. L. Oxford, Stephenville; and Mrs. Mollie Green, Santa Anna, Texas.

Funeral services were held in the Methodist Church at Canyon at 3 o’clock Monday afternoon conducted by the pastor Rev. M. M. Beavers assisted by Rev. Lynn Claybrook, pastor of the Baptist Church.

The pall bearers were F. H. Haines, J. C. Pipkin, R. L. Robinson, J. T. Service, H. C. Raffa, and J. M. King. Burial was in Dreamland Cemetery under the direction of the Griggs Undertaking Co.
