John Robert "Bob" Hastings was the 2nd son and the 5th child of William Wallace Hastings and Margaret Ann Philpott Hastings. He married Miley Milindy Frazier Hastings on March 17, 1894 in Parker Co. TX. Bob and Miley had 5 sons and 5 daughters.

PIONEER OF CASTRO COUNTY SUCCUMBS

DIMMITT, Sept. 5.--Last rites were held here this afternoon for J. R. Hastings, 64, who was found dead in his bed early Monday morning. Heart disease was believed the cause of death.
Mr. Hastings was one of the pioneers of Castro County having settled on a farm here in 1898.
He was a life long member of the Methodist Church and a Mason. He was also president of the Dimmitt National Farm Loan Association. Funeral services were under the direction of Rev. Alfred Freeman, pastor of the local M.E. Church. Surviving are his wife and the following sons: Joe, J. G., and Charles of Dimmitt and John of Lubbock and the following daughters: Mrs. E. F. Harman and Mrs. Ulys Davis of Dimmitt, Mrs. Eachol Wright of Hereford and Miss Leona Hastings of Dimmitt.
