The family finally arrived in Lawrence MA in 1892. By 1898 William was employed there as a tinsmith. Opportunity presented itself the following year when he began working as a brakeman, along with his brother Charles, for the B & M (Boston & Maine) Railroad.
William married Sarah M. Mosher in Lawrence on July 18, 1901. In 1906 he became a Conductor for the railroad. While residing in Lawrence they had at least two children: William E., born 1903, and Ethel M., born 1907.
Around 1912 or so, William and his brother Charles began working for The United Fruit Company in Bocas del Toro, Panama. This job required them to sail out of New York City to the newly constructed Panama Canal for periods of several months before returning for periods. Their families retained residences in Massachusetts, though on occasion also sailed to Panama for periods of time.
William was cremated and his ashes interred. He was 59 years old at the time of his death.
