John Crabtree, 68-year-old Yager resident, died Thursday morning in Fortuna where he had been living for the past three months because of poor health.

He was born April 16, 1887, in Twin Valley*, Lake County, and moved to the Yager area in 1910. He first worked there as a rancher and later joined the Humboldt County road department in the Bridgeville-Yager district where he worked for 36 years, for many of these as foreman. He retired 4 years ago. Crabtree was a member of the Eagles Lodge of Fortuna.

Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Susan E. Crabtree of Yager; nine children, Miss Lena Crabtree of Yager, Mrs. Charlotte Forbes of Fortuna, Mrs. Mabel Jasper of Oakland, Mrs. Carol Godfrey of Fortuna, Richard Crabtree of Eureka, Mrs. Irma Pollard of Fortuna, Mrs. Verna Epps of Fortuna, Mrs. Erla Jadro of Fortuna, and Harold Crabtree, stationed at Cheyenne, Wyo., with the U.S. Air Force; six grandchildred, Eileen Pollard, James Pollard, Frank Epps, Norman Forbes, Jr., Paul Jadro and Gary Jadro, all of Fortuna; a great granddaughter, Terri Forbes of Fortuna; two brothers and two sisters, William Crabtree of Yager, Bart Crabtree of Hornbrook, Mrs. Lillian Bassford of Eureka and Mrs. Florence Beasley of Alton; also numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Monday at 1:30 p.m. in the chapel of Goble's Fortuna Mortuary with the Rev. Harold V. Reeves officiating. Burial will follow in Ocean View Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Hank Woods, Andy Pond, Russell Hunt, Bill Miller, Don Wahlund and Gus Landergren. Members of Aerie 2147, Fraternal Order of Eagles, Fortuna, all will be honorary pallbearers.
