James Perry Province, 94, retired restaurant owner, of 5623 N. Williams avenue, died Thursday in a local hospital. Mr. Province was born February 18, 1863, in Ohio. He had lived in Oregon the past 55 years. Coming here from West Virginia in 1885 he homesteaded at Summit Prairie, moving to Mitchell in 1895, where he owned a ranch and operated a hotel. He moved to Portland in 1903, operating a ranch at Gervais and later entering the restaurant business.

Mr. Province leaves a son, James Harold Province, Abilene, Tex.; and two half brothers, Garrett Province, Florence, and Ben Province, Vancouver, and eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Services will be 1 P.M. Tuesday in Finley’s Rose Chapel, with interment in Riverview cemetery.
