Alice was a kind woman with a great sense of humor - Always a sparkle in her eye. She was best friends with my grandmother. Both were widowed at a young age and enjoyed traveling together as well as church activities. She will be greatly missed.

===

Alice L. Humphrey Scales was born on March 15, 1922 in Mahomet, IL. Alice died on February 11, 2016 at age 93 from a stroke in Vancouver, WA.
Alice grew up in Mahomet, IL where she graduated from high school and married Danny Scales. They moved around to many places as Danny was in the military. Danny Scales passed away in a plane crash while in the military, and left Alice to raise 2 boys on her own. She lived in Louisiana as well as in parts of Texas.

After her boys were raised....she moved to Vancouver, WA in 1966 and lived here until she passed this year. She worked at Hilda's Bakery, Grahams Bakery, the CC Store and retired from the Vancouver VA Hospital. She loved being part of the family at First Evangelical church where she started to attend in 1966. She had many friends that she loved to do things with as well as spend time with the Triple L group at church.

She saw so much change in her lifetime from how we travel, communicate, socialize, the electronics we have available and so much more. She lived through the depression of the 20's and also saw the recovery of our country many times over. She saw many wars including the one that took her husband so many years ago. Through it all she was a loving, kind individual that would do anything for you, including giving you the shirt off her back. But most of all Alice loved children like no other could. She worked in a boy's orphanage in her younger years, loved the boys but also loved her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and her great-great-grandchild with all her heart. The smile of a child always gave her a twinkle in her eye and a huge smile on her face.

She will be missed by so many people. But we all know she is in Heaven with her husband, Danny Scales, and the Heavenly Father that she so believed in.

She is survived by two sons, two daughters-in-law, five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

A Celebration of Life will be held at First Evangelical Church on Saturday, March 5, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. The address is 4120 NE St. Johns Road, Vancouver, WA. 98661. There will be a potluck held afterward at the church please feel free to bring anything you would like.
