Lindy was named for aviator Charles Lindbergh who took his solo flight across the Atlantic in the year Lindy was born, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Tuesday, February 9, 2016. Lindy was born in Hollis, OK on his mother’s 30th birthday. He was the eighth of eleven children born to Hiram and Lela Bartlett. He graduated from Westview High School in 1945 at the age of 17 and then upon turning 18 that same year he began his service in the U.S. Navy. Lindy earned the WWII Victory Medal, actively serving aboard the U.S.S. Beatty through the end of WWII. Lindy spent most of his time in the Navy training in Boston Harbor and in cities along the east coast, England, Denmark, Sweden, France and Gibraltar, as well as other countries such as Cuba and the Panama Canal. Upon his honorable discharge from the Navy on Halloween day of 1947, Lindy met Helen and they married not long after on January 25, 1948. The two of them began their life together in Hollis, OK where their first two children. In 1950 Lindy moved the family to Oklahoma City where soon after he and Helen had their third daughter, and he also started his own business – “Bartlett Plumbing Co.” He later sold that company to his business partner and opened “Lindy’s Plumbing Co.” Lindy’s Plumbing Co. continued to be successful throughout his ownership and Lindy retired (for the first time) in 1980. Lindy said after he sold that company he had his first good night’s sleep in years. Lindy would continue to work in sales for N.O. Nelson / Winnelson Co. and Kelly’s Plumbing until retiring for the final time in 1993. In 1969 Lindy and Helen purchased waterfront property at Lake Eufaula in eastern Oklahoma where many family vacations and weekends filled with boating, skiing, fishing and parties were enjoyed for over 25 years. Lindy loved to fish and boat and made sure all of his daughters, their children and friends had the same opportunities. In 1995 the couple achieved their dream of retiring to their home there and made the location their permanent and primary residence. Lindy was preceded in death by four sisters and three brothers: Ogoretta Bartlett Richey; Ovetta Bartlett; James Bartlett; Auvanelle (“Nell”) Bartlett Neve; Romie Bartlett; Frank Bartlett; and Jean Bartlett Brozek. He was also preceded in death by three grandchildren: Natasha L. Dunn; Mitzi A. Pool; and Joshua Johnson; as well as two son-in-laws: Michael O. Dunn and Steven P. Brown; and one nephew, Johnnie Bartlett.
